LITERACY THROUGH THE ARTS
Matt Sullivan and Ken Cro-Ken have successfully joined forces for well over a decade
to create interdisciplinary projects that thrive on the arts and multimedia.

Our interdisciplinary and multimedia projects reveal the connections between all things.

All projects are tailored to augment the core curriculum and work within the given budget of each organization.

No organization is too big or too small.

Together, our combination of professionals come together with yours to show the connections

between human history, art/music history and natural history.

  Exposure to writers such as, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and to artists, such as, Robert Smithson & Andy Goldsworthy

and to Earth Science, Astronomy, Cosmology... can make the connection between things more obvious and apparent.

KEN CRO-KEN IS AN EARTHWORK PAINTER WHO FOCUSES ON THE INVISIBLE FORCES THAT SHAPE AND MOLD ALL THINGS.

Using a unique palette that Cro-Ken created and developed over the last 30 years, he sets his "Speed Elements" paints into motion.

The video camera captures images that elude capture by the canvas as they transform and take on the behavior of nature close and far.

Just as a planet surface records a record of past events, so too does that Speed Element palette come to rest;

and therefore, more accurately could be called a "painted".  It is the video that could more appropriately be called a "painting"

Participants learn to understand that all things are in a constant state of flux or change.

Modern art was often said to "reflect a moment in time".
WE WANT TO OFFER EVEN MORE!!!

Students learn to observe how nature and space appear but equally important, how it moves.

Emerson - "How something appears depends on how long one takes to observe."

AT SYMPHONY SPACE

- THE NEW YORK TIMES - Published: February 22, 2011 -

"The most unusual work I encountered was “Multiple Oneness,” an intriguing performance-art piece by

the oboist Matt Sullivan and the painter Ken Cro-Ken. While Mr. Sullivan played a melancholy lament

over recorded sounds, Mr. Cro-Ken poured liquids onto a canvas projected onto a video screen.

The colorful liquids flowed through the painting’s raised surfaces like yellow lava,

swirling in strange tandem with the oboe’s melancholy tunes."

- VIVIEN SCHWEITZER -

OUR MISSION:
* The goal within our mission is to create engaging educational projects through the arts.  Students will learn first hand, the importance to developing their Language Arts Standards while learning to create a bridge between the "art world", "academic world" and the "real world".  The potential also exists for participants to become more self-empowered as they realize that creative intelligence can guide their ways for a more exciting, passionate and productive life.

Our affiliation with a host of local, national and international contemporary art and music venues can offer students insight into the professional world of the arts.  There is an  opportunity for students to also become more greatly aware of the potential that exists for anyone to be more creatively minded in every aspect of their education and future career choices.

OUR TEAM:
Our core team of professional musicians, artists, writers, etc... will share their talents and methods;
but what may be learned most is the powerful role passion can play in all that one does.

Our projects have been implemented within the curriculum of private and public organization.
Such as:

* The New Jersey Chamber Music Society
* Usdan Center for the Creative and Performing Arts,
  (Rated in the top ten nationally by Time magazine
   as one of the most creative Arts programs.)
* The Songcatchers of New Rochelle,
* Downtown After 3 Club (DA3), an after school program created after the events
   of 9/11 for two high schools one block south of the former World Trade Center.
   (The H.S. of Economics and Finance, The H.S. for Leadership and Public Service)
* Summer Institute for Jazz, with The Westchester Chamber Orchestra

Some of the creative projects you can begin to choose from:
The Nature of Sight and Sound
Creating a video; using the visual composition as the foundation for the musical composition or vice-versa.

*  Literacy Through Nature
Students gather and memorize information to become investigative researchers and reporters to learn about nature, it's inhabitants and the sensitive balance that exists between all living things on this planet.  Participants learn individually and then decide collectively: the introduction, the order of student clips and the conclusion.  They follow the project to completion by learning how to package and present their project with photographs, drawings and a brief description that will be used to create the front, back and side of the DVD case. By learning every experience from concept to product, students learn how to create a bridge between the "art world", "academic world" and the "real world"; and the potential that exists for them to be self-empowered and potentially lead a more creative and productive life.

Video Production
Script writing, poetry, songs, narrative, open forum or debate...
Multimedia Events
Creating a visual composition that includes music and/or voice.
*  The Gallery Experience
Learning every aspect of presenting and promoting an exhibition:
Creating art, writing a theme and artist statement, promo art and text layout, and then the physical preparation for and have a gallery show in Manhattan.

SONGCATCHERS OF NEW ROCHELLE, NY

A PHRASE THAT MANY NOW CONSIDER TO BE THE "METHOD OF CHOICE" WITHIN CONTEMPORARY EDUCATIONAL STRATEGIES.

Projects will develop over a given time frame,taking into consideration the core curriculum, exams & school events.
Time offers participants the luxury of "living with a thought" over time.

All ages are capable of incredible growth and expression through this program.
Parents and teachers will be proudly surprised but not nearly as much as the students.

We assist your teaching staff and they too will become more inspired!
